“The power of the community”

Melodies have defined his life. Paavo Järvi grew up surrounded by renowned musicians and classical music, and his father taught him everything he needed to know to become a conductor. Today, he enchants audiences at the helm the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, among other things thanks to his faith in his partners onstage and in the artistic power of the community.

“I’m not an opponent of plastic, I’m just against plastic waste”

Andreas Fath loves water. So to raise awareness for water pollution, the chemist has swum several rivers from source to mouth. He talked about these and other experiences during a visit with him in the Black Forest.

“Big Christ in small-town”

It’s no big secret that the numerous brick kilns dotting the outskirts of Dhaka are the biggest contributors to our capital city’s ever declining air quality, which is classified as being dangerous to sensitive groups at best and toxic to everyone at worst.

“Adolfo Kaminski - The master forger”

After his mother died and everything pointed to her having been killed by the Nazis, the young Adolfo joined the French Resistance. He was a dyer, loved chemistry, and was a talented forger able to make hitherto indelible inks disappear. This proved the beginning of a long double life during which he would provide false passports and papers to many resistance movements all over the world.

“King Bansah - Mechanic here, monarch there”

He installs carburetors in Ludwigshafen and builds bridges and apprenticeship workshops in his African kingdom. In Europe, his fans slap him on the shoulder in the street. In Africa, his subjects have to kneel before him at audiences.
